What's NEW: Detroit Scroll - Vintage Destination Scrolls
Great news! We now carry Detroit Scroll made in Michigan!
Here is an excerpt from Detroit Scroll:
Here is an excerpt from Detroit Scroll:
So, from his love of Detroit history, the founder created "Detroit Scroll":Transportation has been a vital part of the history of Detroit. During the 1930s Detroit operated one of the largest municipally owned public transportation systems in the world. By 1956, the original 3,000 Detroit streetcars were replaced by buses. The streetcars were sold to Mexico City, where they still operate to this day.On the old buses and streetcars passengers learned of the various stops by way of signs on destination boxes. Such boxes contained a continuous, two-sided canvas scroll with an alphabetized list of street names. The destination boxes were manually operated by the drivers and operators, using a hand crank.
All of our Detroit art and souvenirs are printed and manufactured by Detroit scrolls. These historic scrolls have appeared in decorating magazines, home sections of newspapers and movies. You may have seen them at home stores, design centers, and local restaurants. These scrolls usually feature destinations in cities like New York and London; here, however, are the first I have ever come across with Detroit locations and street names. It’s very exciting to be able to offer you these vintage scrolls reproduced on fine art canvas of the highest quality. Detroit themed art at its finest. Here are some of the items here at Thimbleberry right now!
